Backwards purls! I am not alone!! I only learned to kknit recently, and I had purling down pat, and then I did several projects in the round, and several with rib stitch, but when I came back to flat stockinette I was doing the same thing. When you try to knit into it, it feels all tight and hard to stitch. I have to remind myself now that the needle should be standing up straight and the yarn goes between the two needles from right to left.

I also thought I was the only perosn in the world who managed to end up accidently knitting in the round on the inside, thus having the stockinette showing up on the inside! But I found a tutorial on how to fix that error.

So, there is no technique that is so simple that it can't be done wrong! Nevertheless, on we knit! :-)

You know there is a name for somebody who purls like that...it is a combination knitter. Actually, one really famous knitter, who's name is escaping me right now, knits like that. What happens when you purl in the manner you are purling is the purl stitch becomes exactly like the knit stitch (does that make any sense?). So, I say that to let you know that what you are doing is not necessarily Wrong as there is no such thing as WRONG knitting but just unique! Seriously, combination knitting...it is real.

I Have trouble with shortrow heels too, so I stick to the heel flap...I really like picking up the stitches and such...makes me feel like I am doing a trick or something.
