Knitaversary

I just realized that I’ve been knitting for a whole year. I started in January 2006. This was my fourth time trying my hand at it.

The first time was in high school in one of those Home Ec courses where you learn different crafting skills. and I did pretty good at most of them…. I made a quilt, applique pillows, crocheting and I forget what else but like sewing in Jr. High, knitting was an exercise in frustration. I don’t remember much, but I know I really didn’t like purling. (and that hasnt’ changed.) I still have the item I attempted to make (and no you can’t see it) … but when I look at it, you can see the frustration in the stitches. I quickly forgot what I learned. The couple of times I tried knitting after that were frustrating as well. The book I had only showed the knitted cast-on and carrying the yarn in the right hand. I would get it once, but on the second try, it didn’t happen.

Then, in Dec 2005, I received a crochet book for Christmas and made some hats…which led me to me buy a book that had patterns for both crochet and knit hats. So I thought I’d try knitting one more time. But I had the internet at my disposal this time. And thanks to KnittingHelp.com, I learned long-tail cast on and continental knitting. And the rest … as they say is history.

I do want to thank Dave, tho. His comments and emails were encouraging when exasperation came to a head … and his yarns have helped enable the hidden yarn-a-holic inside me to ‘come out’, as it were ;) . And his blog was the first blog I ever commented on. Nice guy, that Dave. Hopefully I’ll make more friends in 2007. :)

It’s been quite the journey, this last year. Lots of learning… which is good, ’cause I love to learn. Knitting was particularly helpful during the stressful last three months of 2006…which was when I discovered the therapeutic benefits of knitting.

Well… I guess that’s all I have to say. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading my ramblings.

Happy Knitting!
p.s. I hope to have pictures of socks-in-progress within the next few days. They are coming along nicely. :) (but that’s easy to say now ’cause I’m not at the hell heel yet…)

  1. Happy Knitterversary! (Sorry so late.)
I found that Knitting Help was invauable to learning the dreaded Kitchener (sp?) stitch. It’s all been so helpful, I even bought the DVDs.
But knitters are a great community, so you’r ein with the right bunch of folks.
    Here’s to another year!
    Dave
