fusion fibre fun

I started a new project yesterday. The yarn, called fusion, is 287 yards of squishy soft merino handspun by FatCatKnits.

I love knitting with handspun. It has ‘personality’ and ‘character’, feels nice between the fingers and is generally fun to work with.

I’m making a ‘Woven Stitch Scarf’ from Ella Rae Designs Book One. It calls for US Size 15 (10 mm) needles so hopefully it’ll go quickly. You’re supposed to cast on 15 stitches, but I think this yarn is thinner than the yarn used in the pattern so I cast on 19 stitches because 15 stitches was too thin, in my opinion. I just hope I have enough yarn for a decent length scarf. This will make a nice gift for someone one day.

The fingerless mittens (which are NOT blue, by the way) are stalled. The first one is 97% finished (still needs a thumb) and the 2nd one I’ve had to rip parts out twice – first because I forgot to switch to larger sized needles, then, while working the thumb gusset, I had an odd number of stitches for the gusset when I need an even number. So, I’m working on the scarf for now and I’ll go back to the fingerless mitts in a bit.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

am i blue?

Found this here and I couldn’t resist sharing my results. :)

Your Blog Should Be Blue

Your blog is a peaceful, calming force in the blogosphere.
You tend to avoid conflict – you’re more likely to share than rant.
From your social causes to cute pet photos, your life is a (mostly) open book.

There has been attempts at both knitting and spinning. I dropped the spindle and had to rip out the knitting. Guess I’ll try again later.

I love my fingerless mitts!

Remember these?

I made ‘em in Feb 07. The first thing I kinda made up myself. They’re very basic. The one thing I would change is that I would go down a needle size for the ribbing. I didn’t know about that then and I think that would make a difference in how they fit.

Any I wore them the other day (on a day that I ironically forget my regular gloves) and I love them. And I’m talking fingerless mitts in general. I mean they were fun to make, but I’d never really worn them ’cause they are green. I don’t like green. I don’t wear green. But it was very cold. So now I have to make some that I will really love. I’m thinking… um, blue.

I finished another Odessa and am currently choosing my next project …. methinks fingerless mitts.

attention: knitting content ahead!

I’ve been looking at a lot of bloggers do retrospects about 2007. For me, I guess it would be that 2007 was my 2nd year of knitting (I learned to do cables and practiced double knitting). But the biggest surprise for me was the spinning. Never in a million years would I thought I would be creating my own yarn or fall in love with spinning fiber the way that I have. Nor would I have expected that spinning content would take over my blog, something that I have mixed feelings about. But it is what it is, right? And I’m having fun. :)

Ok… on with the knitting content! :D

I made dishcloths! I never thought I would do that either, but I needed something small and reasonably quick.

I bought two balls of Sugar’n Cream that I got for about $4 (3 oz each).

See?

I searched around for a simple pattern but didn’t really find any I liked so I used a stitch pattern from a magazine and made up my own.

These took less than two days! and I had about 2 oz left of each ball so what’s a gal to do … but make more dishcloths. :)

Magic

Sometimes knitting feels like magic to me. I mean, we learn these two basic stitches and some how we come up with the heel of a sock.

I felt that magic again when I was working on the garterlac dishcloth. AND it’s ‘only’ the knit stitch!

Plus, I had no interesting in doing all that turning so I found this page about knitting (and purling) backwards.

Once again … the learning (and magic) continues. And entrelac just became a little bit less mysterious. :)

Happy New Year! :D
