I changed my mind…

I cast on for the fingerless mittens, but it didn’t feel right. I wanted to knit, but not those … so I ripped ‘em out and I’m back to not knowing what to knit for the Cabin Cove Yarn KAL. *sigh*

On a positive note, I did finished my toe-up socks but was struck by a moment of perfectionism and was disappointed by the cast off, which was stretchy but still too tight in my opinion. Realistically, I knew these socks would not be perfect, and I’ve been telling myself that all along … but I guess there was still a part of me that wanted them to be. :( I will have pictures at some point.

I’ve been working on my little crochet baby sweater ’cause I just want it to be finished and I don’t like having an unfinished project around for so long so hopefully, I’ll have a finished photo of that soon. and honestly? I’d rather be knitting.

The ‘neverending scarf’ is now about 30 inches long. Things are moving much faster now that I understand ‘how’ I knit. Part of the scarf does have twisted stitches, but unless you look close, you can’t really tell.

I guess that’s it for now. Have a good week!!!

just a small update…

I was wondering today how in the world did I become so obsessed with yarn. I could (and have) spend my whole lunch hour just window shopping at esty drooling at the lovely yarny goodness. Sheesh. 8-O
Anyway… I have an inch done on the rib for sock one so that means I’m almost done with my first toe-up socks (Yay! :D ) … which also means I’m thinking about my next projects.

  1. My Cabin Cove KAL project – Fingerless mittens in the colorway Amethyst.
  2. Using some beautiful handspun that I bought from an Etsy seller. I’ve got a pattern picked out. It calls for about 198 yds and what I have is about 185+ but I think I can make it work. Sorry, no pictures of the yarn yet … I want to enjoy it for a while before I share it with the world. (as if that many people actually read my blog  ) But I will tell you that it’s blue – big surprise there, hm? ;)

Have a good evening! :)

FO and a heel

You might think FO might be something to say to the snow drift that surrounded my car this morning but no, it’s an actual Finished Object. I finished it over the weekend and finally got a semi-decent photo of them today:

Fingerless Mittens

Started: February 3, 2007
Finished: February 8, 2007
Pattern: Fingerless Mittens – Actually, since this is the first time making these, I looked at several patterns to try and get a general feel on how to make them then I kinda winged it. I tried to add a small eyelet on the back of the hand, but it’s lost in the yarn.
Yarn: 1 skein Lion Brand Wool-Ease Forest Green Heather
Needles: US size 6 DPNs

This is what I hope to make for my Cabin Cove Yarn-along. They were easier to make than I thought. (What the heck is a gusset, anyway? <–rhetorical question)As much as I want to try a stitch pattern or design element, I really want the colors of yarn the be the focus so I’ll probably save that idea for another time.

I just finished the second heel on my toe-up socks. I do like the Sherman Heel and with some well placed markers, this go round was a little easier. But I ended up with a similar problem as last time with one side being pretty and nice and the other not so pretty and not so nice. I figured out too late that it must be the way I pick up the stitches on the encroachments – I think I’m doing it the same on both sides, but apparently not. I know what to work on next time. I’m so pleased to be finished with the heels … now it’s stockinette then rib and I’ll be finished with my first toe-ups. Is it weird to say that I’m more than a little proud of myself? Well … I am.

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of your day!

p.s. Happy Single Awareness Day!

I got nuthin’

I did have all these ideas on what to write, but for some reason it has all left me. I have been knitting all week – on a kind of template for my ‘official’ project for the Cabin Cove Yarn along but those pictures are really bad. But so I at least have something to share …here’s a pic of the yarn I’m going to use for my official project:

It’s a bit more purpley than shown here.

Have a good week!

You learn something new everyday…

I’ve been hard at work on the Sherman Style short row heel (I just discovered it on Tuesday)… but before I talk about that, I want to share something I’ve discovered in the process. I have been doing the purl stitch in such a way that it ends up on the needle backwards, causing me to have to knit from the back loop in order to not have twisted stitches. I’ve been knitting for a year and I only noticed this last night. To be fair, most of the projects I’ve worked on have been either garter stitch or stockinette in the round.

What this means is THIS SCARF has a bunch of backward stitches and no I’m not ripping it out. What this also means is that working on this scarf will be much easier so there’s a better chance of finishing it soon.

The colorway of the scarf is one of Dave’s earlier works. It’s 100% Australian Merino wool and so soft. Softer than the sock yarn. I’m so glad I have two more colorways of this yarn ’cause it’s such a pleasure to work with. I think I’ll be finishing this scarf sooner than later. :)

YAY! as I was typing this post, the mail carrier handed me my recent purchase from Cabin Cove Mercantile. Yippee!!! Soon I’ll be holding the Summer Sky in my hands! :D

Ok … back to the short row heel. Here it is:

Sherman Heel

This picture is a little deceiving … it makes it look better than it actually is. This is the better side, what you can’t see is as big hole at the base of the heel. and I forgot to pick up the wraps at the top of the heel. And the other side is not very attractive – I did have to rip it out twice before getting to this – the first time, after I realized the problem with my purl stitch, I ended up with a nice ‘ladder’ down the center of the heel. *rolls eyes* But this is supposed to a learning experience so hopefully, what I learned will help when I start working on the 2nd heel.

That’s it for now. Thanks for the nice comments on my previous post!

Hope you have a great day!!! :)
