One more inch to go…

nanasock.jpg

My toe-up socks using Dave’s colorway, ‘Nana’s Geraniums’. I’m really not a pink kinda gal, but I love geraniums and as I work with this yarn, I can just imagine the flowers that might have inspired this yarn. I’m only 1 inch away from the heel. Wish me luck! :)

In other news … I tried to change my wordpress theme but my blog roll and webring info did not transfer and I’m not even sure what to search for to find a possible answer. :(

Knitaversary

I just realized that I’ve been knitting for a whole year. I started in January 2006. This was my fourth time trying my hand at it.

The first time was in high school in one of those Home Ec courses where you learn different crafting skills. and I did pretty good at most of them…. I made a quilt, applique pillows, crocheting and I forget what else but like sewing in Jr. High, knitting was an exercise in frustration. I don’t remember much, but I know I really didn’t like purling. (and that hasnt’ changed.) I still have the item I attempted to make (and no you can’t see it) … but when I look at it, you can see the frustration in the stitches. I quickly forgot what I learned. The couple of times I tried knitting after that were frustrating as well. The book I had only showed the knitted cast-on and carrying the yarn in the right hand. I would get it once, but on the second try, it didn’t happen.

Then, in Dec 2005, I received a crochet book for Christmas and made some hats…which led me to me buy a book that had patterns for both crochet and knit hats. So I thought I’d try knitting one more time. But I had the internet at my disposal this time. And thanks to KnittingHelp.com, I learned long-tail cast on and continental knitting. And the rest … as they say is history.

I do want to thank Dave, tho. His comments and emails were encouraging when exasperation came to a head … and his yarns have helped enable the hidden yarn-a-holic inside me to ‘come out’, as it were ;) . And his blog was the first blog I ever commented on. Nice guy, that Dave. Hopefully I’ll make more friends in 2007. :)

It’s been quite the journey, this last year. Lots of learning… which is good, ’cause I love to learn. Knitting was particularly helpful during the stressful last three months of 2006…which was when I discovered the therapeutic benefits of knitting.

Well… I guess that’s all I have to say. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading my ramblings.

Happy Knitting!
p.s. I hope to have pictures of socks-in-progress within the next few days. They are coming along nicely. :) (but that’s easy to say now ’cause I’m not at the hell heel yet…)

Please bear with me…

As you can see, I’m trying out wordpress… and my blog is very much under re-construction. Not everything is in place and I’m still trying understand it but hopefully, soon, I’ll get it to look the way I want.

I brought over the previous posts I made, but was unable to bring the comments along with it. :(
Thanks for stopping by… hopefully, I’ll have more knitting content very soon.

ttfn!

You may be right… I may be crazy …

Why am I considering joining Sockapalooza? *shakes head* Well … we’ll see if I actually do it when signups begin.

There’s a possible KAL re: Dave’s Cabin Cove yarn. I think it’s a great idea. (Go Here!!) But … I’ve had my own personal knit-a-long going for quite some time. *grin* It would be nice to join other knitters who enjoy his yarn.

I’m still knitting my socks – They are about 5 inches long so far…. hopefully I’ll be at the heels soon. I’m looking forward to completing these socks. I’ve found a couple of errors but I’m not ripping anything out on these. Who says they have to be perfect? I put too much pressure on myself the last time I was working on these. This time… it’s all about the knitting and learning experience. (and the yarn :D )

Tomorrow is Friday! Have a great day!! :)

It’s Tuesday…

Hello there… sorry for the boring subject title. I couldn’t think of anything else to say. :)

I’m still working on my socks… but I’m suddenly questioning if I have the right measurements for my socks. Mostly about the length. I’ll figure it out. No pictures yet ’cause they are the same as when I was working on these before. Where there is something new to share, there will be photos. The good news is I only had to do the figure-8 toes once and I don’t need instructions on how to do them. Don’t you love it when that happens?

I had lunch last week with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while and surprise! – she knits!!! How cool is that? She was impressed that I’m learning to knit socks and I was impressed that she makes sweaters. :)

Hope you had a good day. Mine actually wasn’t too bad.

Talk to you soon!

news, socks and blogs

Another thing about this blog, I have a feeling it will be a temporary place until I find a format that I like. I would have waited, but Blogger was starting to frustrate me. But the URL, saffronknits.net will not change.

I started my socks last night and I am very pleased. I’m really only about 4 rows in, but I was able to tighten the stitched of figure-eight toe on the first try! WOO HOO! (No, it doesn’t take much to make my happy.

I read several blogs through out the week but there are two that I check on almost everyday. They are also the only ones I was compelled to check out the archives due to curiousity how these bloggers got to that point.

1. the blue blog – This was the first blog I discovered. I think it was through the pattern links at knittinghelp.com. I came to check out the free patterns and I stayed and read. My favorite project of hers is synchronicity.

2. Dave Daniel’s Cabin Cove – I love this blog. I don’t remember how I found it but it’s written by a cool guy with a really cool cat, Miss Lulu. Dave has a love of fiber and color and I love seeing where that love will take him next. And I didn’t have a stash until he started selling his hand-dyed yarn. One of my favorite posts is about hand-dyeing yarn.

Well, I’m gonna go work on my socks now.

ttfn! :)

Happy New Year!!

Welcome to the new home of my knitting blog! A new name for a new year. (I never really liked the other one anyway. :) )

Here’s what I’ve been up to:

I’ve worked a little bit on my ribbed scarf:
(In cased you’ve forgotten, the pattern is here -PDF)

so… it’s a little bit longer. I like scarves … but for some reason I don’t enjoy knitting them.

I’ve also been crocheting as well:

Pattern is by Denise Black in the book 24-Hour Crochet Projects ed by Rita Weiss.

Now … my first goal of the year? Toe-up socks … again… holes or no holes in the heel. :) I mean…

I’ve got to use all that Cabin Cove sock yarn that is the majority of my stash, right?

Talk to you soon!!!
